Talita Cumi is a drug and alcohol treatment center in Jocotenango, Guatemala. Boredom is very common at Talita Cumi where there is a mandatory 3 month stay before you may check out.Some members of the program play pool to help pass the time.Elbis practices his breakdancing as other group members lift weights or relax.One of the program members bathes in the early morning.Three men lay in the initial treatment room. These men will live, eat and sleep here for the first two weeks of they’re stay until the staff deems them clean and healthy enough to join the rest of the group.A recent admittant to the program. He was a previous participant in the program who was found by staff members passed out drunk back in town after a relapse.A priest and other members of his congregation “cleanse” the participants in the program at Talita Cumi.The daily group prayer before the men are served their lunch.Frederico is one of the few in the group who hails from someplace other than Guatemala. He is originally from Spain.The meals at Talita Cumi is cooked on a wood fired stove. All of the food and wood are donated to the program by various benefactors.Some members of the program perform the duty of handing out lunch to their comrades.Two members of the program hang and take done laundry from the clothes lines.
