3. Craig F. Walker / Boston Globe Chuck Cole passed a makeshift memorial during a “celebration of life” ceremony for Arthur Medici at Newcomb Hollow Beach in Wellfleet, MA. Fears of a fatal shark attack on Cape Cod were realized Sept. 15. The victim: Arthur Medici, 26, of Revere, who was boogie-boarding in the waters off Wellfleet. It was the stateÕs first fatal shark attack in 80 years.

HM 2. Jessica Rinaldi / Boston Globe A day after the Columbia Gas fires Brenda Jones leaned against the wall in front of her bedroom on Brookfield Street in South Lawrence. With her apartment destroyed Jones said she would sleep on a friend’s couch until she could find somewhere else to live.
