A COUPLE HOURS AFTER THE WINNERS OF THE 2013 BOSTON MARATHON CROSSED THE TAPE TO FINISH THE RACE, A BOMB EXPLODED JUST A FEW YARDS FROM THE FINISH LINE, AND 12 SECONDS LATER, A SECOND BOMB DETONATED A FEW HUNDRED FEET UP THE COURSE ON BOYLSTON STREET.

Boston marathon runner Robert Wheeler of Ashland, a  student at Framingham State University, kneeling at left, helps a man injured after the bombings at the Boston Marathon finish line.  Wheeler had just crossed the finished line and ran to the scene of the first bombing,  taking off his shirt to apply it to the man's wound and elevating the leg in an attempt to slow the bleeding.
