The day before, the Lupien family of five was evicted from their home after having their SSI taken away, their food stamps revoked, and their rent raised without warning over the span of one year. “Thank you, mommy” says Laya for seemingly no reason. “I really don’t know why you’re thanking me,” says Mariah. “My kids are camping with no roof over their head, and they’re still thankful.”
